Welcome…
I’ve got to be honest here, I’ve been feeling like a bit of a fraud for years…
The whole hustle culture thing has never really felt like me, but that hasn’t meant that I haven’t been a driven entrepreneur.
My career has meant the world to me ever since I stepped into the world of work 40 years ago at the age of 18, but that hasn’t meant that I’ve totally sacrificed being a part of my family for it.
I’ve lived a full working life alongside a full family life, and I’m still learning…Always. I’ve never believed that work and life sit on opposite sides of a balance; for me, understanding comes from letting them inform one another over time.
You see, I believe that we can have it all - just not all at once.
And that mantra has served me very well along the way.
It’s taught me to pick what I focus on carefully and to spend time intentionally on the things that delight me, both at work and at home.
It’s also meant I’ve had to stand alone, I’ve had to be happy to move ahead of the crowd sometimes, and also be happy to pause awhile when everyone else rushes forward.
My business intentions tend to span 3 years at a time, I play the long game. I’m interested in success for all rather than success for one.
I don’t pause to retreat from ambition, but to make better decisions that build businesses in a way that endures.
So I absolutely love what’s happening in business right now - a gradual dawning of the need to lead differently, more intuitively, more in tune.
So now, I’m feeling less and less like a fraud and more like a person of the moment as I see people pausing, taking a breath and acting more intentionally.
And there’s nowhere that’s more like that than Substack at the moment.
It has become my thinking place, my sanctum, a place to come back to the hearth and gather my thoughts and share my travels.
A place to learn from others, and through my writing here, further my thoughts and develop my writing practice.
There’s room here beside me at the fire, come, take a seat, you are most welcome…
